Evony Review

One day I went to a friend’s room here in the barracks to ask to borrow a study guide for an upcoming test and upon entering I noticed he was playing a game on the web. It seemed pretty interesting and so I made a mental note of what it was called, then I returned to my room and did a search to see what it was all about. Surely, a game that looked as good as this could not be free, but sure enough it was, and so I signed up. I am not much of a game player, not because I don’t like to play games, but because I don’t have the time. Surprisingly, it was easy to sign up and have now found some time in my schedule to play. At first, the game dynamics were pretty intimidating and I was a little lost as far as what to do next, so I just followed the quests. Within a matter of days I understood the concept and game play and I was off to building my city. About a week into I signed up to be in an alliance so I am not out there alone and vulnerable to attacks. I have also made a few friends in the alliance that I chat to regularly, some in other countries.

Now I find myself logging on after work so I can check my progress and see who has scouted or attacked my cities. I find myself cursing the computer when I can’t log on because the internet here in Afghanistan is not what it is in the United States. Needless to say, studying is not what it should be due to the addictive nature of the game.

One thing I wish could be changed is to place queues when building buildings or researching technologies. Oftentimes I find myself not being at a computer for a day or two and in the meantime could be building structures or researching technologies (isn’t that what the mayor you appoint for your city should be doing?). I also would like to see a resource sell back option in which one can sell some gold, lumber, stone, iron, food for game coins to be used to buy other items or even an amulet. Finally, I would like items to be permanent. For example, you can increase the amount of iron you mine by buying certain items or winning those items with the daily amulet, but only for a week or 24 hours after which you’re back to your regular production.

Overall, Evony to me is the best game I have played on the internet. As mentioned above, this is a game you would expect to pay to play. I would rate this game a 4.9 out of 5 overall.
